Personal introduction

Jean-François Dechezelles is an assistant professor (Maître de conférences) at Centrale Lille Institute, affiliated with the Unité de Catalyse et Chimie du Solide (UCCS, Lille, France). He obtained his PhD in Physical Chemistry in 2009 from the University of Bordeaux (France), where he specialized in colloidal systems. After his doctorate, he conducted research, as postdoctoral researcher at the Adolphe Merkle Institute and the University of Fribourg (Switzerland), focusing on hybrid nanomaterials and functional colloids.

His research centers on the synthesis and surface functionalization of colloidal and hybrid particles, with applications ranging from photonic crystals and biointerfaces to more recent developments in Pickering interfacial catalysis

Throughout his career, he has developed strong expertise in colloidal systems (silica, polymers, microgels, hybrid particles) and their interfacial assembly. At UCCS, his current work is dedicated to designing stimuli-responsive particles (such as PNIPAM, PEG, polyoxometalates, polydopamine, and gold nanoparticles) in order to formulate Pickering emulsions for catalytic processes, including light-driven reactions and gold-catalyzed oxidation.
